Using Radio‐Frequency Identification Technology to Monitor Eurasian Beavers

چکیده

ABSTRACT The use of radio‐frequency identification (RFID) offers new potential in remote wildlife monitoring to reduce the invasive nature studies requiring direct contact with study animals. Facilitated by emergence technology, RFID can remotely identify individual animals implanted passive‐integrated‐transponder (PIT) tags. We aimed establish and assess a technique for noninvasively wild population semi‐aquatic mammal, Eurasian beaver ( Castor fiber ). A fixed reader was installed from June 2018 July 2019 at lodges within territories 8 family‐groups Vestfold Telemark, Norway, 3 nights per lodge, antennas lodge entrances. Microchipped beavers were detected when entering or leaving lodge. family‐group size recorded using compared known based on live capture records observations. smaller than size. However, testing suggested that individuals inhabiting had high probability detection (98.44%). Fixed readers are effective where focal point is appropriate, unique applications species fidelity dens, exhibit central‐place foraging behavior. Research through PIT tag should be given priority noninvasive monitoring. Whereas may not record entire family‐groups, they provide an accurate efficient alternative other techniques. © 2021 Authors. Using shim technology to monitor DCE runtime performance

Obtaining performance data for application or system software is typically di cult, especially when the source code is not available. While popular techniques such as event trapping or monitoring external network tra c may provide some indication of performance, their various shortcomings restrict the domain of applicability. In this paper, we illustrate a new approach to obtaining performance ...

Immunoblotting for the serodiagnosis of alveolar echinococcosis in alive and dead Eurasian beavers (Castor fiber).

A novel species-specific anti-beaver-IgG-alkaline-phosphatase conjugate was synthesized for the development of a new serological test for echinococcosis in beavers. Two different ELISAs conventionally used for human Echinococcus multilocularis serology (Em18-ELISA and Em2-ELISA) yielded diagnostic sensitivities of 0% and 46%, respectively. In contrast, the subsequently developed immunoblotting ...

Echinococcus multilocularis Detection in Live Eurasian Beavers (Castor fiber) Using a Combination of Laparoscopy and Abdominal Ultrasound under Field Conditions

Echinococcus multilocularis is an important pathogenic zoonotic parasite of health concern, though absent in the United Kingdom. Eurasian beavers (Castor fiber) may act as a rare intermediate host, and so unscreened wild caught individuals may pose a potential risk of introducing this parasite to disease-free countries through translocation programs. There is currently no single definitive ante...

The Use of Acceleration to Code for Animal Behaviours; A Case Study in Free-Ranging Eurasian Beavers Castor fiber

Recent technological innovations have led to the development of miniature, accelerometer-containing electronic loggers which can be attached to free-living animals. Accelerometers provide information on both body posture and dynamism which can be used as descriptors to define behaviour. We deployed tri-axial accelerometer loggers on 12 free-ranging Eurasian beavers Castor fiber in the county of...

Utilizing Radiofrequency Identification Technology to Improve Safety and Management of Blood Bank Supply Chains.

INTRODUCTION The importance of efficiency in the supply chain of perishable products, such as the blood products used in transfusion services, cannot be overstated. Many problems can occur, such as the outdating of products, inventory management issues, patient misidentification, and mistransfusion. The purpose of this article was to identify the benefits and barriers associated with radiofrequ...
